Text: Thought-Provoking Response to the Report on the UC Davis Pepper Spraying

Of course, this cultural fantasy of the unknown Other violating “young girls” was often used in the American South to justify the lynching of African Americans because of their threat to white female purity. In fact the sexualization of Others has historically helped Christian invaders to justify brutalizing and dehumanizing native people; however, if you think I am reading too much into the passage from the report cited above, let us ponder the following statement: “Vice Chancellor Meyer expressed similar concerns in an interview conducted on Dec. 7. He explained, “our context at the time was seeing what’s happening in the City of Oakland, seeing what’s happening in other municipalities across the country, and not being able to see a scenario where [a UC Davis Occupation] ends well … Do we lose control and have non-affiliates become part of an encampment? So my fear is a longterm occupation with a number of tents where we have an undergraduate student and a non-affiliate and there’s an incident. And then I’m reporting to a parent that a nonaffiliate has done this unthinkable act with your daughter, and how could we let that happen?”” Once again, in this cultural fantasy, the administration sees itself as protecting the purity of its daughters by eliminating the threat posed by a violating Other.

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

Nov. 28 - Last night Seattle and Vancouver joined 5 other west coast cities in planning to shud down ports all along the West Coast on December 12.  With this addition it means that every west coast occupation in a city with a port is now participating in the port blockade.  Together we are unstoppable.

Text: Interview With Protester Pepper Sprayed at UC Davis

cop pepper sprays sitting UC Davis students

They handcuffed the students so tightly. One kid, later on they were unable to cut off his ties, they’d been tied so tight. One of the other students couldn’t feel his hands they were so purple, his circulation was cut off so badly for so long. He took himself to the hospital after he was released from the zip-tie restraints. They told him he had nerve damage and not to expect to be able to feel his hands for the next week. He has to come back next week to see if there was permanent nerve damage in his wrists.
…Aside from refusing the order to disperse, the only rule we were breaking was camping on campus. But since we had the first night waived by Chancellor Katehi, we really hadn’t even broken university policy, she waived the code.

From an interview with one of the non-violent protesters pepper sprayed at UC Davis.

Video of police officers pepper spraying students who are peacefully sitting, waiting to be arrested. Then the cops realize they will have to push their arrestees through the very crowd that has watched just watched their despicable action. Oops.

The crowd chants to shame them and the police back down!

WE CAN WIN THIS.
